Gye Nyame School News & Updates
What’s Happening

Gye Nyame School of Martial Arts is an affiliate of the National Black Belt Karate Association Foundation, founded in 1973. The Gye Nyame School delivers certified and documented instruction primarily in Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do style martial arts and related disciplines. The intent is to enhance self-discipline, self-esteem, self-motivation, health and wellness, self-protection, and sound moral character building among its instructors and students.
Gye Nyame School Provides Self-Defense Seminar To Counter Abuse and Brainwashing
The Gye Nyame School of Martial Arts provided a Tang Soo Do self defense lecture led by Master Ovie Mitchell, 5th Degree Black Belt, as part of an anti-violence and anti-domestic abuse women's empowerment seminar in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Master Mitchell discusses how to recognize brainwashing, manipulation, intimidation, and how one can use psychological and physical self-defense to protect oneself.
Stellar Achievement for NBBKAF Founders
NBBKAF Founders Robert Harris, Walter Fagan, and Charles Emery were all promoted to 10th Dan in 2014 after each of them had been practicing martial arts for more than 50 years. This is a rare and special moment in martial arts when three friends who co-founded the same martial arts association are simultaneously honored in this way. The rank of 10th Dan is the highest achievement in martial arts. Check out the article in the online version of the Hamilton, Ohio newspaper by clicking the link below.
NBBKAF at 44 Years and Counting

Beginning with Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Grandmaster Stanley and four newly promoted 1st Degree Black Belts (Michael Posey, Joe Thompson, Charles Emery, and Ken Robinson) in the 1970s, Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan had an exciting launch in Cincinnati. Grandmaster Ahn arrived several years later in 1967 with the help of one of his previous students, 3rd Degree Black Belt Sgt. Benjamin Burkes, who served in the US Military and was previously stationed in Korea.
